Well Gate — Carved Edition is a unique, one-of-one original, distinct from the Linen Edition also in the collection. It took 42 hours to complete by hand, and it will not be remade in identical form.

What you are looking at
The grooves at the centre are the depletion, cut into the wood itself rather than sitting on top of it. The overflow still moves outward in rope and gold thread, even though there is nothing left at the centre to sustain it. The generosity continues past the point of capacity, the same way it does in the Linen Edition — only here the emptiness is structural, carved into the panel rather than covered by fabric.
The beads, in three colours and three sizes, mark every offer that came close and was never let in — the same refusal the Linen Edition holds in its twelve gold beads, told in a different material.
