Meet Uju
I'm Obianuju Tóth. Nigerian-born, Hungary-based artist, musician, and mom. Aquarius sun, Scorpio moon, Pisces rising — which probably explains a lot.
I draw you in, you enter, and you get more than you bargained for. You run, or you stay. But if you stay, you stay.
My work spans multiple mediums because that’s simply how my brain works. One idea usually leads somewhere unexpected, and I’ve learned to follow it.
I believe research can move like art, and art can carry real evidence — with both holding up under serious scrutiny.
I started building ARTOMYSTIC in a small village in Hungary with a question that kept bothering me: Why does a capable woman know she has more in her, yet keep making a smaller life?
My people are the women who were never going to fit inside one tidy job title.
Since then, that single question has become a published memoir and a whole body of work: a fifteen-track album, a sculptural exhibition, a Notion system, The Rite, and a room in Budapest.
I've taught Business English to more than seventy students around the world, played in bands, performed at festivals, built businesses, raised my son, studied Health and Biological Science, and made a ridiculous number of things with my hands.
Then there are the things that don't fit neatly into a biography.
I'm convinced I've lived a past life in old Persia. Deserts keep appearing in my work, and Morocco and New Mexico have a strange pull on me.
I watch serial-killer documentaries because the human mind fascinates me while Aliens and consciousness make for perfectly good dinner-table conversation. Add to that strength training, video games, cooking from scratch, trips to my favourite shisha bar, and laughing at people falling over and getting scared on YouTube.
Beautiful things matter to me. So do difficult questions. Most of all, I have a soft spot for people whose minds refuse to stay in one lane.
It's good to meet you.
The work is for women with a lot going on inside them: intelligence, desire, ambition, curiosity, strange ideas, unfinished questions.
Sometimes all of that has been squeezed into a life that became too small.
If your intelligence has ever moved sideways instead of in a straight line, and you've spent years being told that was the problem, we're probably already in conversation.
People I've worked with tend to say some version of the same thing.
"You have to get close to her before you know the real her: She is approachable, and most people mistake that for pliable and they find out otherwise once they're close. That's her superpower."
— Dijon, friend and mentee
"How one person can be this confident, tell you the brutal truth, dig up what you're hiding, and still hold empathy while she does it is rare."
— Kata Nagy
